What actually determines placement streams
Two playlists with identical follower counts can deliver wildly different results. The spread in the estimate above comes down to four things:
- Playlist activity. A playlist people actually play daily converts followers into streams. A dormant one converts nothing, no matter the count.
- Your position. Most listening happens in the first 10 to 20 tracks. A top-5 slot can beat the top of the range; slot 150 of 200 rounds to zero.
- Follower authenticity. Bought followers never press play. This is the single most common way artists waste pitching time and money.
- Genre fit. A perfectly matched audience saves and replays your track, which compounds through the algorithm long after the placement.

How many streams does a playlist placement get?
A track placed on an active, real playlist typically generates monthly streams equal to roughly 2% to 10% of the playlist's follower count. Position matters enormously: a top-5 slot can beat the top of that range, while a slot deep in a 200-track list may produce almost nothing.
Do playlist followers equal streams?
No. Followers only tell you how many accounts saved the playlist. What converts followers into streams is how often the playlist actually gets played, how high your track sits in it, and whether the followers are real people. A botted playlist with 100,000 fake followers delivers zero real listeners.
How much money is a playlist placement worth?
Chain the two estimates: monthly streams (2% to 10% of followers) multiplied by Spotify's $0.003 to $0.005 per-stream rate. A real 50,000-follower playlist works out to roughly 1,000 to 5,000 streams and $3 to $25 per month for one track, which is exactly why artists pitch dozens of playlists at once instead of betting on one.
